2009 December
Vladimir Children's Hospital

We took the following:

  • 10 pulse oximeters
  • 3 neonatal IV pumps

Pulse oximeters are such a blessing for a child when blood gases have to be drawn from the hand.  We have taken them into Russia for many years.  They are small and easy to pack.  This year was the first time we gave them directly to the hospital.  When the director saw them, she sent word for the pulmonologist to come see.  In staff meeting the week before, the doctor had said how much they were needed.  God's timing is perfect!  The wait time was only a week.

Neonatal & Premature Infant Syringe Pump

From Vitaly...Got a pump two days ago. Delivered it to them same day. But they ask me come next morning for opening preemie baby department after remodeling. I went too.

Chief doctor even ask me say few words on opening, as one of their sponsors. I said we are humanitarian fund consist from fathers, mothers, grammas and grandpas that see children as real treasures of our heart. Just few words. Day before I got a package from Jan with hats for preemie babies. I got it to them also and said couple words about Jan been here and made it for them. Two things came into perfect time. Both IV pump and hats came just a day before preemie baby department get opened after remodeling. It was wonderful.  :)

Murom Clinic, 3 hours south-east of Vladimir, has been an ongoing project since 2005.

Hand-held tonometer for Glaucoma testing

The key to successful glaucoma treatment is early detection. Glaucoma measurement is a safe, fast and accurate method of testing intraocular pressure.

Glaucoma occurs when the fluid drainage from the eye is blocked by abnormal development or injury to the drainage tissues, thus, resulting in an increase in the intraocular pressure, damage to the optic nerve, and loss of vision.

We tend to think of Glaucoma as a disease inflecting older people, but child can also suffer from Glaucoma.  Glaucoma is classified according to the age of onset. If it begins before the child is 3 years old, it is called infantile or congenital (present at birth) glaucoma. If it occurs in a child older than 3 years old, is called childhood glaucoma.

We purchased the tonometer, as seen below in image a, to replace the antiquated tools pictured below in image b.  We can only imagine how they were able to test for Glaucoma with 2 weights, a few rulers, and a tray!

Lena's (our Murom representative) mom is a doctor at the clinic. "I spoke with my Mom this week she say, machine is working wonderful, there was a video on how to use machine, she had study it all ready.  And one more time she say THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
